The Church is at its best when every generation shows up - and shows up for each other. Growing young starts with a heart shift, then makes it personal: Identifying and practically investing in those who will come after us.
Discussion
1. Revisit and Deuteronomy 6:4-7. What stands out to you in this passage, especially when you think about it being spoken to an entire community - not just parents? How might this shift your view of responsibility for the next generation?
2. Revisit and read Mark 10:13-16. What does this moment with Jesus reveal about how he sees children and young people? How does this story challenge your own pace, priorities, or perspective?
3. Can you identify the five key people who uniquely invested in you as you grew? Who encouraged you or helped shape your faith - and what impact did they have? Share a few memories together.
4. In order for our church to grow young, each of us has to make it personal. Are there young people in your life right now - family, neighbors, church, work - who might benefit from your attention, time, or presence? If so, name them. What’s holding you back from investing in them?
5. Now make it really practical. Who are you reaching out to this week? Or, who do you need to encourage that you’re already investing in? How can you start small, but start now?
Application
- Pray First. Ask God to show you one younger person you can invest in.
- Reach Out. Text, invite, or encourage someone younger than you this week.
- Join In. Seek out opportunities you could serve in to help mentor others at your campus (groups, children’s ministry, student ministry, etc.)
