Video Content
During our series in Amos, we’re learning from both the Teaching Team during weekend services and group videos during the week. These are available on PLC’s YouTube channel and posted on Sunday mornings as the series progresses. They include additional content about each week’s Scripture section and discussion questions for your group.
In week 2, we’re spending time in Amos 4-5:6, with our Independence Campus Pastor, Matt Rittgers. The discussion questions below are those found in the group video.
Discussion
1. Share a story about a time when you bought something that seemed legit, but turned out to be cheaply made. What happened, and how did you realize it wasn’t the real deal?
2. Read Micah 6:8, Matthew 22:37-40, and James 1:26-27 together. What do these passages reveal about the obedience God desires? How does this contrast with the Israelites in Amos, and is there an area of your faith that currently feels like an “empty ritual”? If so, share what it is and why.
3. When faith becomes routine, God often finds ways to wake us up—sometimes through hardship. Has He ever used a hardship in your life to get your attention or change your direction? What did you learn from it?
4. If empty rituals don’t lead to real faith, what does? In Amos 5:4, God invites His people to “Seek me and live.” What does (or could) actively seeking God look like in your life right now, especially where your faith has felt like an ‘empty ritual’?
5. Where do you experience tension between what you believe and how you actually live? What will help you keep seeking God when it’d be easier to ignore, drift away, or fall into routine?
