Video Content
During our series in Amos, we’re learning from both the Teaching Team during weekend services and group videos during the week. These are available on PLC’s YouTube channel and posted on Sunday mornings as the series progresses. They include additional content about each week’s Scripture section and discussion questions for your group.
In week 5, we’re spending time in Amos 9, with our Cedar Falls Associate Campus Pastor, Jon Nance. The discussion questions below are those found in the group video.
Discussion
1. Read Amos 9:1-6 together. What kind of picture does this paint of God's power and authority? What phrases or images stand out to you, and how does it shape your understanding of who God is?
2. Read Amos 9:8-10 together. God says He will destroy Israel, but not completely. He creates a dramatic interruption to their lives and ultimately provides a new way forward. What stands out to you in this passage about God’s intention behind his judgment?
3. Have you ever experienced a time when God (perhaps painfully) interrupted your life for hard but necessary change? How did it impact you, and what did you learn from it?
4. God's plan for Israel didn't end with judgment. Read Acts 15:12-21, where James quotes Amos 9:11-12 about the inclusion of Gentiles in God’s family. How does knowing that God’s restoration includes all people, regardless of background, remind you of the hope fully realized in Jesus?
5. After walking through Amos and seeing God's justice, understanding repentance, and knowing his promise of restoration, we see his desire for restoration over exile. How will the reality of his grace in your life motivate you to live righteously and pursue justice now? What do you need to respond out of this reality vs. obligation?
