During our series in Amos, we’re learning from both the Teaching Team during weekend services and group videos during the week. These are available on PLC’s YouTube channel and posted on Sunday mornings as the series progresses. They include additional content about each week’s Scripture section and discussion questions for your group.

In week 4, we’re spending time in Amos 7-8, with our Cedar Falls Associate Campus Pastor, Jon Nance. The discussion questions below are those found in the group video.

Discussion

1. Read Amos 7:1-9 together. If God held a plumb line to your heart, where do you feel “upright” with his will? Where might you be out of alignment?

2. The Israelites ignored God’s warnings. What sin patterns in your own life are easy to overlook or justify? How do they impact your relationship with God and others?

3. Read Amos 7:10-17 together. How can you respond differently than Amaziah and Israel? What’s keeping you from repentance and fully surrendering to God’s correction?

4. What are some trustworthy and specific ways you hear from God (Scripture, prayer, others, etc.)? How can you intentionally create space to listen to God’s voice and recognize his correction in your life?

5. Repentance means turning from our own ways and aligning ourselves with God. What is one area where God is calling you to turn back to him? What concrete step will you take to obey his leading?
