Video Content
During our series in Amos, we’re learning from both the Teaching Team during weekend services and group videos during the week. These are available on PLC’s YouTube channel and posted on Sunday mornings as the series progresses. They include additional content about each week’s Scripture section and discussion questions for your group.
In week 3, we’re spending time in Amos 5:7-6:14, with our Cedar Falls Associate Campus Pastor, Jon Nance. The discussion questions below are those found in the group video.
Discussion
1. Share a story about a time when someone with power or influence over you used it responsibly for your good. How did their approach and decisions impact you?
2. Read Isaiah 1:16-17, Jeremiah 22:3, and Zechariah 7:9-10 together. What do these passages and Amos' words in 5:14 and 24 reveal to us about God's expectations for His people?
3. Read Amos 6:4-7. "Joseph's ruin" represents Israel's coming destruction and societal decline. Their failure to respond shows their apathy as they indulged in comfort over addressing the injustice in their own nation. What similarities do you see between Israel's behavior and how we live today?
4. Where in your life might you overlook justice or responsibility because you feel comfortable, busy, or removed from the impact? What specific barriers keep you from engaging?
5. True worship leads to action. How does your current engagement reflect your relationship with God? What’s one specific way you can engage with God this week to move your heart toward action and into a place to reflect his heart for justice and righteousness?
