Video Content
During our series in Amos, we’re learning from both the Teaching Team during weekend services and group videos during the week. These are available on PLC’s YouTube channel and posted on Sunday mornings as the series progresses. They include additional content about each week’s Scripture section and discussion questions for your group.
In week 1, we’re walking through Amos 1-3, with our Independence Campus Pastor, Matt Rittgers. The discussion questions below are those found in the group video.
Discussion
1. Share a story about a time when you missed or benefitted from a “warning sign” in your life. Whether it’s literal like a road closed sign or more abstract like an emotion or word of advice, share what happened and what you learned from it.
2. Read Amos 1:3-2:3 together, noting the reasons for God’s judgment against the surrounding nations. Then, read Amos 2:4-8. What similarities and differences do you notice? How do you think the Israelites may have felt when God’s judgment turned toward them?
3. Do you ever find yourself judging others while forgetting the sin in your own life? Or pitting others as enemies even though, without Jesus, we were once enemies of God? What does Amos warn about our tendency?
4. If you're honest, is there an area in your life where you feel God might be giving you a warning sign? What do you think he's trying to show you, and what might your next step be?
5. What are we risking if we stay stuck in sin? How will it affect you and those around you? And if you were free from that sin today, what might it unlock in your life?
