What does it mean to follow Jesus faithfully - not just in theory, but in the actual season you’re in? This summer, we’re listening to stories from real people in different phases of life. This week, we step into the world of a high school student in an interview with Pastor Chip and Reagan Easter to explore what faith looks like from their unique point of view.
Discussion
1. What stood out to you from Reagan’s interview? Did anything she shared uniquely surprise, challenge, or encourage you?
2. Revisit and read Colossians 3:23-24. Students (and many adults) are living with packed schedules. And while busyness isn’t inherently bad, the key is choosing the right kind of busy for the right reasons. What activities in your life are helping you mature and grow in your faith? What might be pulling you away?
3. Revisit and read Philippians 4:4-7. Think back to your high school years - what pressures shaped you then? How is that similar or different than Reagan’s story? How can you help students in your life navigate the pressure they’re experiencing rather than adding to it?
4. Reagan shared how she’s trying to follow Jesus and help her friends know him too. Like Raegan, who of your peers might be watching how you live out your faith, and how do you hope to reflect Jesus to them?
5. Revisit and read Matthew 18:12-14. God’s No Matter heart is an oasis in the kindness desert that high school often is. How can you live out and provide that same heart - especially with people younger than you? If you find a feeling of resistance to this somewhere, explore why.
Application
- Remember the story. Interviews like this remind us to slow down and consider someone else’s perspective before making assumptions.
- Choose well. What’s the right kind of busy in this season? Ask God to help you choose wisely.
- Be a safe place. God has a No Matter heart - for you and for others. Be the kind of person where others feel seen, safe, and can catch a glimpse of Jesus.
